Whilst lines and wrinkles are a natural part of ageing, the prominence of wrinkles can be affected by our facial expressions. Frequent facial movement causes the muscles in our face to contract, along with the overlying skin. Over time, this can cause permanent creases in our facial skin, commonly on the forehead, and around the eyes and mouth.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a popular and effective treatment designed to treat these common signs of ageing. It works to relax certain facial muscles beneath the skin to create the desired aesthetic effect.

Anti-Wrinkle InjectionsWho is a good candidate?

Anti-wrinkle injections are designed to benefit people who wish to reduce their facial lines and wrinkles. In most cases, ideal candidates are physically healthy and mature enough in age to be concerned about skin lines and creases. However, the treatment is not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers.

Before your treatment, you will need to have a personal consultation with us to establish your goals for anti-wrinkle injections. We will discuss your medical history and which areas you wish to treat, taking into consideration your personal preferences and the extent of your skin wrinkling. This will allow us to develop a personalised treatment plan suited to your needs and goals. Additionally, we will discuss the aftercare process to ensure you have a good idea of what to expect.

Anti-Wrinkle InjectionsBenefits

Anti-wrinkle injections are designed to treat unwanted lines and wrinkles in the facial skin. The injections contain a naturally-occurring substance that acts as a muscle relaxant. By relaxing the facial muscles, the procedure works to reduce the creases caused by frequent expressions such as smiling and frowning. It can address issues such as:

  • Forehead creases
  • Frown lines
  • Crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes)
  • Lines at the corners of the mouth
  • A gummy smile
  • Night time teeth grinding

The treatment can also serve as a non-surgical approach to a brow lift, subject to the needs and desires of the individual patient.

Anti-Wrinkle InjectionsThe procedure

Every anti-wrinkle injection treatment is slightly different depending on the patient and which areas are being treated. Before your treatment session, you may need to discontinue blood-thinning medications, as these can increase your risk of bruising. We will discuss how you can prepare for the procedure during your consultation.

The treatment itself normally takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Using a fine needle, the anti-wrinkle substance is injected into the specific muscles responsible for creating the skin creases. The proteins inside the injections work to soften the muscles and relax the overlying skin. Most patients do not find this process painful, but we can apply a topical numbing agent to maximise your comfort levels.

With years of experience performing cosmetic procedures, Dr Bish will aim to administer a precise amount of the numbing agent, according to your desired results. Although the results can vary, they generally last for three to four months, with the option of further top-up treatments.

Anti-Wrinkle InjectionsAftercare and risks

This is considered a low-risk procedure, which means side effects are usually temporary and mild. You may have some slight swelling, redness, and headaches, but these symptoms should subside within a couple of days. To minimise these effects and ensure optimal healing, it is important to follow your clinician’s instructions on how to properly care for your treated area. For example, you may be advised to refrain from exercise for 24 hours and avoid touching or rubbing the area while it heals.

Following your specific aftercare advice will help minimise potential complications such as persistent swelling and infection. Your results will improve over several days after your treatment, leaving you with smoother and more youthful skin.
