Lines, wrinkles, and sagging facial skin become more common as we age. Loss of volume, combined with reduced skin elasticity are some of the most common signs of ageing, often most noticeable around the eyes, lips, and cheeks.

Dermal fillers are a cosmetic treatment designed to address these issues. It works to fill certain areas of the face that have lost volume over time. The fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a synthetically produced sugar that is naturally occurring in the body. By injecting this substance into selected areas, we can create more fullness in the desired areas.

Dermal FillersWho is a good candidate

We can establish your suitability for this treatment during your personal consultation. This will involve a discussion about your medical history and ideal outcomes for the procedure. Generally, ideal candidates are in good health, do not have allergies to filler, and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can offer.

If you are concerned about loss of facial volume, wrinkles, or skin laxity you may be a good candidate for this procedure. The filler can be applied to areas such as the cheeks, lips, or other areas of the face, depending on what effect you hope to achieve from the procedure. We will take your individual concerns and goals into account when developing your treatment plan in order to cater to your specific needs.

Dermal FillersBenefits

Dermal fillers can be applied to numerous areas of the face, most often the cheeks, hands, jaw, chin, and lips. The substance is administered carefully, with a focus on the specific areas where patients desire more facial volume.

You may seek a dermal filler procedure if you desire to:

  • Reduce fine lines and facial creases
  • Lift drooping eyebrows and corners of the mouth
  • Correct under-eye hollows and dark circles
  • Address hollowing of the cheeks
  • Camouflage nasal hump prominence
  • Enhance lip volume
  • Add definition to the jawline

Although fillers can achieve these effects for many people, the treatment is not for everyone. Results will depend on your characteristics and treatment goals, which means you should discuss your desires with a professional prior to getting your dermal fillers. Additionally, the fillers are not permanent, which means you can adjust your look to suit your preferences with age.

Dermal Fillers The procedure

During your treatment session, your skin will be cleaned and prepared. The procedure generally does not take more than 30 minutes, but this can vary depending on which areas are being treated. A topical anaesthetic can be used to minimise any discomfort.

The dermal filler will be carefully injected into the appropriate areas to create the desired effect. Whilst the process adds immediate fullness to the selected areas, patients will see the full results after the filler has had time to settle into its position under the skin. Due to the use of topical numbing, most patients find the experience comfortable.

Depending on the type of filler used, you can expect the filler to last for about six months. After this point, your body will absorb the natural substance. Patients may opt to have touch-up treatments every six months to a year.

Dermal FillersAftercare and risks

It is important to take appropriate care of your treated area after your dermal filler procedure. Dr Bish Soliman will give you specific care instructions to help ease the healing process and help the filler settle into place. For example, you may be advised to avoid alcoholic drinks, smoking, and makeup for a period of time. You may also need to minimise strenuous activity and use skincare products with gentle ingredients.

You may experience some mild side effects, including swelling and bruising, but this is a normal part of the healing process and will subside shortly. More significant complications are rare but can include allergic reactions, infections, or unwanted results. If you notice any severe or lasting side effects, you should contact us or seek medical treatment.
